Ironman Kalmar – Follow the race

The Ironman Kalmar is a big party that will bring together thousands of athletes to the city centre of Kalmar.

Swim Course

The swim starts at Tullhamnen at 6.45 am. From Elevatorkajen and Vågbrytarbadet, you have a good view of the swim course. At the transition area, located on Södra Kanalgatan, you can see the participants switch from swimming to cycling. This is also where they later transition from cycling to running.

Bike Course

The bike course runs through both Kalmar and Öland. There are great spectator spots at the transition area and along Ängöleden. The first participants are expected to cycle out through Kalmar and onto the Öland Bridge at around 7.40 am.

Approximate times when participants typically pass various locations on the bike course:

  • 08.00–15.00: Färjestaden (Ölands Köpstad and the harbor area)
  • 08.30–11.00: Mörbylånga (town square and sports field)
  • 09.00–12.00: Degerhamn (the hill leading up to road 136)
  • 09.30–13.00: Hulterstad
  • 10.00–14.00: Resmo/Gynge (Gynge village road)
  • 11.00–15.00: Läckeby (Snättebrovägen)
  • 11.00–16.00: Rockneby (the church)
  • 11:.00–16.30: Lindsdal (Folkets Hus)

Run Course

The run takes place on a three-lap course, giving you the chance to see the participants multiple times at different locations in the city center. A great spot is Stortorget, where runners pass by three times before finally heading into the finish line. Another good viewing point is along Ängöleden.

Finish line

At the finish line on Stortorget, the atmosphere is electric throughout the evening. The first professional athlete usually finishes around 2.30–3.00 pm, and the finish line remains open until 11.20 pm. The final hour before the course closes is known as Heroes’ hour.
