Meet the sand sculptors: Linda Milsten and Rebecca Petersen
They are creative, curious and full of energy – and this summer they are taking part in the Kalmar Sand Sculpture Festival for the fourth time. Team Linda and Rebecca captured the audience’s hearts back in 2021 when they won the People’s Prize, and now they are back with yet another sculpture that both moves and inspires.
How did your sand sculpture adventure begin?
– We have always been creative and tried out different materials, but it was in the summer of 2018 that everything really took off. Linda invited her niece Rebecca and her family to Kalmar to have a look at the sand sculptures. We were completely blown away by how skilled the sculptors were – and thought: “We want to try that too!” The year after, we applied – and got in! It was just as fun and exciting as it looked, and since then we’ve been hooked.
What do you want to convey with this year’s sculpture?
– In a dream world, we humans would take care of our planet with more care. Life on Earth completely depends on the sea. With our sculpture, we want to show how the interplay between land and sea should look – like a mutual love relationship.

What are you most looking forward to this summer?
– Being part of decorating Kalmar, of course! It’s such fun to contribute to something that makes people’s days a little more magical. And we’re looking forward to meeting all the other sculptors – it’s usually a really lovely bunch!
