About Destination Kalmar

Destination Kalmar is Kalmar’s official destination management organization and is owned by the Municipality of Kalmar.
The company was established in 1999 to develop Kalmar as a destination and to strengthen the local tourism industry. Tourism is a rapidly growing sector that generates many job opportunities and contributes to creating an attractive place to live, work, and visit.
Owner directive
Destination Kalmar is committed to sustainable destination development. Our goal is to make Kalmar a vibrant and attractive place all year round – for both residents and visitors.
The company shall:
- Manage and develop the Kalmar place brand. This includes profiling and marketing Kalmar's unique history and cultural heritage, beautiful countryside, and coastal environment in collaboration with local businesses and the municipality.
- Develop Kalmar as a meeting and event destination and offer attractive venue options.
- Offer tourist information services and enhance the destination’s hospitality together with local businesses and residents.
- Operate the city’s guest harbour.
- Manage and develop activities at Kalmar Castle in cooperation with Statens fastighetsverk (the National Property Board of Sweden).

Kalmar Destination Strategy
In the spring of 2024, we launched the Kalmar Destination Strategy. It not only provides direction for the company but also serves as a shared roadmap for all stakeholders in the local tourism industry.
